Dinolfo Announces Online Petition To Bring Ridesharing To Upstate New York

Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo today announced the launch of an online petition to bring ridesharing services such as Uber and Lyft to Upstate New York. The petition comes as lawmakers in Albany have discussions regarding Upstate expansion of ridesharing services that are already available in New York City and across the country.

“Throughout our nation, many municipalities have begun utilizing ridesharing services like Uber and Lyft, but residents of Monroe County have not been able to enjoy these services,” said Dinolfo. “Ridesharing services can fuel new job opportunities and economic development as well as opening the doors of opportunity to those who need adequate transportation to go to work, go to a doctor’s appointment, visit a local retailer or enjoy an evening out on the town.”

Ridesharing provides flexible job opportunities for individuals and their services lead to the ability for consumers to receive accessible and affordable means of transportation. Not only would riders have an easier method of travel throughout the County, but local businesses would have access to a larger market of consumers. There is also evidence that the use of ridesharing services reduces DUI arrests and impaired driving.

“With the success that Uber and Lyft have had in providing safe and reliable transportation across the country, I know that residents, families, and businesses in Monroe County would benefit from the operation of ridesharing services in Upstate New York,” said Dinolfo.

The petition to bring ridesharing services to Upstate New York can be found online at https://www2.monroecounty.gov/bring_ridesharing_upstate as well as on the County Executive’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.
