“Allowing young adults under the age of 18 to express their desire to make a lifesaving donation is critical to expanding the New York State Organ Donation Registry and saving lives,” said County Clerk Adam Bello. “Many young people who visit our office for a learner’s permit won’t be presented with another opportunity to enroll until their first driver’s license renewal 8 years down the road. That 8 year gap effectively keeps thousands of potential donors off the registry. Today is a giant step forward to filling that gap. Our staff is going to make a serious effort to make sure that everyone visiting a Monroe County DMV is making an informed decision on organ donation,” continued Bello.

Following an internal investigation, Monroe County Clerk Adam Bello has uncovered several serious issues which have cost taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars and violated federal and state laws. Over 600 transactions involving the county fee for plastic pistol permit conversion cards, local passport execution fees, a notary public renewal and custom data queries were intentionally waived – costing Monroe County taxpayers over $35,000.
