Monroe County Clerk Cheryl Dinolfo called on the New York State DMV to take action to ensure all New Yorkers can comply with the REAL ID Act which was passed by Congress and signed into law in 2005. To date, the NYS DMV has not taken action to ensure that the standard driver’s license held by hundreds of thousands of Monroe County residents complies with REAL ID. This means that these residents will be unable to fly domestically for business and leisure using their driver’s license as identification when REAL ID takes effect. Standard driver’s license holders who wish to fly domestically will be forced to pay an additional $30.00 for an Enhanced Driver’s License (EDL). A visit to a local DMV office is necessary to obtain an EDL.

Monroe County Clerk Cheryl Dinolfo today announced that the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles will issue refunds to Veterans who previously paid to add a Veterans’ distinction on a driver’s license or non-driver identification card. Dinolfo advocated for the reimbursement of the $12.50 State fee charged to Veterans.

Today, Monroe County Clerk Cheryl Dinolfo called upon the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to immediately end the practice of selling motorists' personal information unless the information is for safety purposes such as a vehicle recall. It has recently been reported that the State DMV is selling motorists' personal information including their driving records, addresses, makes of cars and dates of birth and that this practice is financially rewarding as the State has profited from the sale of the motorists data generating $60 million for the State in 2014.

County leaders today called on New York State to pass legislation that would increase the revenue retention rate for counties operating Motor Vehicle Offices and to require that a new photo be taken for driver licenses at the time of renewal. These two initiatives are top priorities for both the New York State Association of County Clerks (NYSACC) and the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) during the State’s 2015 Legislative Session.
The Monroe County Clerk's Office is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to process passport applications. In addition, Monroe County Clerk Cheryl Dinolfo will host special passport services in 2016.

Monroe County Clerk Cheryl Dinolfo today warned Monroe County residents of a telephone scam which claims the phone call receiver will have a warrant for their arrest if they fail to dial an out-of-state phone number by 5:00 p.m. that same day and make payment. In this current scam, the caller ID appears as a number from the County Clerk’s Office and the fraudulent person identified herself as calling from the Monroe County Clerk’s Office. In a message left to one resident, the phone number to return the call was (423) 536-6354 which is a telemarketing agency in Tennessee.

Monroe County Clerk Cheryl Dinolfo today warned Monroe County residents of another deed scam that has targeted new property owners. The County Clerk’s Office has been contacted by local residents who have received what appears to be an official letter from a company called “Local Records Office” which urges the owner to send $89.00 to the company for a copy of the property owner’s deed. The letter also indicates that the property owner should respond by a specific date. Equally disturbing is the misleading statement in the solicitation indicating that a copy of the deed can be obtained from a County Recorder (County Clerk’s Office) for a cost of “up to $89.00”.

Monroe County Clerk Cheryl Dinolfo today filed a lawsuit against the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles to stop its plan to issue Driver's Licenses to illegal immigrants. Building upon Dinolfo's previous efforts, the lawsuit asks the State Supreme Court to rule that the State DMV is violating Section 502 of the Vehicle and Traffic Law that requires a Social Security Number to obtain a driver's license.

Rochester -- Members of the Finger Lakes Region of the New York State Association of County Clerks (NYSACC) held a joint press conference today to object to the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles' desire to contract with an outside entity for the processing of motor vehicle registration renewals.
Monroe County Clerk Cheryl Dinolfo launched "Renew Monroe", encouraging residents to renew their vehicle registrations at local DMV offices. Over $500,000 annually could be kept working here if every vehicle owner in Monroe County participated in the new program. Residents can mail their renewals to the Henrietta DMV Office, use a convenient drop box, or for immediate return of their registration, use an Express Line at any permanent DMV branch. By order of the Federal Government, the Monroe County Clerk’s Office will no longer be able to accept U.S. Passport applications at its Auto License Bureaus, both permanent and mobile, effective Tuesday, January 3, 2006. The order applies to not only Monroe County, but all DMV offices in New York.
