Description of Duties

This supervisory position is responsible for the operation of various programs initiated for adolescent youth who reside in the Monroe County Children’s Center (a Specialized/Secure Detention Facility), usually by court order. Duties include the court ordered transporting of youth and coordinating and implementing orientation and training of Senior Youth Detention Workers and Youth Detention Workers. Employees work a variety of shifts and schedules and physically restrain youth when conditions arise.  This position differs from Senior Youth Detention Worker by virtue of the overall supervision provided to staff and youth at the Children’s Center, and the overall development of procedures and training.  The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Assistant Coordinator of the Children’s Center or other higher level staff member.  General supervision is exercised over Youth Detention Workers, Senior Youth Detention Workers and other staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be permanently employed in the competitive class at the Monroe County Department of Human Services and must have served continuously on a permanent basis for twelve (12) months holding the position of Senior Youth Detention Worker or Rapid Response Youth Detention Worker immediately preceding the date of the written test.

A combination of time served in multiple titles sufficient to meet the maximum period of required service is also qualifying.

Any person, otherwise meeting the requirements for an examination, who was laid off from an agency for which the examination is being held, and whose name is presently on a preferred list is eligible to compete in the examination. When completing the application, such person should be sure to indicate his/her present employment and/or the title and location of his/her last permanent employment in the municipality.
