Q. How do I access mental health services for a family member or myself?

Call the service provider directly to set up an evaluation appointment. See listing in the yellow pages under “Mental Health Services.”

Q. How do I access chemical dependency services for a family member or myself?

Call the service provider directly to set up an evaluation appointment. See listings on the OASAS website or the yellow pages under “Drug Abuse and Addiction.”

Q. What if I can't afford treatment?

All publicly funded, licensed outpatient mental health clinics and chemical dependency clinics in Monroe County accept Medicaid, as well as local insurance carriers.

In addition, all have a sliding fee scale for those without insurance, and if that is a burden, you can request for the fee to be reduced or possibly waived, or for a reasonable payment plan to be set up. No one can be turned away from a publicly funded clinic for inability to pay, but agencies will need verification of financial need.

The publicly funded mental health clinics, and the age groups served, are:

  • Catholic Family Center - Adults and Children over 5 years of age
  • Crestwood Children's Center - Children only - preschool age and up
  • Genesee Mental Health Center - Adults and Children over 5years of age
  • Rochester Mental Health Center - Adults and Children over 5 years of age
  • Rochester Rehabilitation Center - Adults only; Age 18 and up
  • Steve Schwarzkopf Community Mental Health Center - Adults only; Age 18 and up
  • Strong Behavioral Health - Adults and Children preschool age and up
  • Unity Behavioral Health - Adults only; Age 18 and up

  • The publicly funded chemical dependency treatment clinics, and the age groups served, are:

  • Catholic Family Center - Adults only - age 18 years and up
  • Delphi Drug and Alcohol Council - Adults only - age 18 and up

     

In addition, licensed chemical dependency clinics that are nut publicly funded have a sliding fee scale available. These licensed clinics, and the age groups served, are:

  • Action for a Better Community - Adults only; age 18 and up
  • Baden Street Settlement - Adults only; age 18 and up
  • Conifer Counseling - Adults and Adolescents
  • Huther-Doyle Memorial Institute - Adults and Adolescents
  • Rochester General/Genesee Addiction Services - Adults only; age 18 and up
  • Strong Recovery/Strong Behavioral Health - Adults only; age 18 and up
  • Unity-Park Ridge Chemical Dependency - Adults and Adolescents
  • St. Joseph's Villa - Adolescents only
  • Westfall Associates - Adults and Adolescents

If you believe that you have been denied an appointment due to lack of insurance, ask to speak with the intake supervisor at that agency. If you continue to be denied and appointment due to lack of financial resources, contact the Monroe County Office of Mental Health at 753-6047 or mentalhealth@monroecounty.gov for further assistance.

 

Q. What do I do when I have a problem or grievance with a mental health, chemical dependency or developmental disability provider?

You should ask for the agency’s grievance procedure and/or talk to with a supervisor. If that is not successful, you may contact the Office of Mental Health for assistance at 585 753-6047.
