Police Lieutenant

Description of Duties
This is an important supervisory law enforcement position in a Police Department of a town or village involving responsibility for either precinct command or watch command or special assignments. Work is performed in accordance with New York State law, local ordinances, and the administrative policies and procedures of the Department. Direct supervision is exercised over Sergeants, Police Officers, civilian personnel and may be exercised over a Lieutenant.
Minimum Qualifications
Towns of Gates or Irondequoit:
Candidates must be permanently employed in the competitive class at one of the above agencies and must have served continuously on a permanent basis for twenty-four (24) months holding the position of Police Sergeant immediately preceding the date of the written test.
Town of Greece:
Candidates must be permanently employed in the competitive class at the above agency and must have served continuously on a permanent basis for eighteen (18) months holding the position of Police Sergeant immediately preceding the date of the written test.
Town of Webster:
Candidates must be permanently employed in the competitive class at the Town of Webster and must have served continuously on a permanent basis for twenty-four (24) months holding the position of Police Sergeant immediately preceding the date of the written test or meet the open competitive qualifications for Police Lieutenant, which are: Two (2) years of paid full‑time experience as a Police Sergeant.
Any person, otherwise meeting the requirements for an examination, who was laid off from an agency for which the examination is being held, and whose name is presently on a preferred list is eligible to compete in the examination. When completing the application, such person should be sure to indicate his/her present employment and/or the title and location of his/her last permanent employment in the municipality.
