About Monroe County Office for the Aging
The Monroe County Office for the Aging (MCOFA) was established in 1973 and designated as the Area Agency on Aging under Title III of the Older Americans Act. For more than 50 years, MCOFA has delivered high-quality long-term services and supports to older adults, caregivers of any age, and individuals with disabilities in Monroe County.
MCOFA is a division of the Department of Human Services and is responsible for planning, advocacy, coordination, and oversight of community-based long-term care services funded through federal and state resources. Core responsibilities include developing and updating the county’s four-year Area Plan, advocating for the needs of older adults and caregivers, coordinating services with community partners, and promoting person-centered, culturally competent, and evidence-based care.
MCOFA works closely with county departments, service providers, and community organizations and is advised by an appointed Council for Elders. As Monroe County’s population age 60 and over continues to grow, MCOFA remains committed to ensuring access to services that support independence and help residents excel in aging well.
