The Monroe County Workforce Development Division’s mission is to stimulate local economic growth by providing resources to those seeking employment, education, programming support and training services by being a conduit between to local workforce development resources.  The Division allows the County’s Economic Development Division to be more responsive to the news of businesses looking to relocate and/or expand in Monroe County.

The Workforce Development Division also provides program and fiscal oversight for the local workforce investment system.  The County and the City of Rochester have designated RochesterWorks! as its one-stop provider for businesses, job seekers and youth.  RochesterWorks! is a 501©(3) not-for-profit which oversees the usage of the grant funds authorized to Monroe County under the Workforce Investment Act, Trade Adjustment Act and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families.

Workforce Development also oversees funding and curriculum for The Entrepreneurs Network (TEN).  TEN assists new ventures and established small businesses through various programs; including methods for securing financing and providing strategies for improving sales and marketing approaches.

Recruiting on the Road provides area businesses the chance to tap into the local workforce by providing employment opportunities within our community. 

For the Business:

  • Event Promotion through participating partners, employers and host location - at no cost to your business
  • Opportunity to network, screen and/or interview with committed job seekers
  • Special access to the community's talented workforce through Recruiting On The Road's enhanced reruiting tools.

For the Job Seeker:

  • Exclusive opportunity to connect with employers in their communities
  • Businesses in attendance are hiring and may interview applications on site
  • Variety of public and private sector businesses ranging from civil service to advanced manufacturing to health care
  • Attendees are asked to come prepared for an interview, bring extra copies of their resumes and dress for success
  • Referral to job placement and job readiness programs

Monroe County’s local workforce is one of the most skilled in the nation, thanks to our local colleges, universities and trade schools.  The Workforce Development Division partners with several public and private partners to ensure that all businesses and companies have the best of the best with it comes to the local workforce.  The County partners with several agencies, including:

The Workfroce Development Division also assists the County's Economic Development team by offering several additional services and programs which spur job creation in Monroe County. 

Training and Retaining Workers

The Monroe County Workforce Development Division and its partners are there whether you are looking for a job, changing your career path or improving your skills.  The County and its partners work with hundreds of local businesses and employers to make sure they have up-to-date information on who is hiring and which types of jobs are in demand.  Some of our partnering agencies include:

Monroe County and the City of Rochester designate RochesterWorks! to administer a majority of the region’s workforce development programs and services.  Most services offered are free of charge and make it easier for local businesses to develop a more skilled and higher educated workforce.

Connecting with Youth and the Community

Monroe County is home to some of the best school districts, colleges and universities in the nation.  The Workforce Development Division partners with our local schools, community groups and RochesterWorks! for Youth to support programs that serve youth between the ages of 14 and 21 with job readiness initiatives.  In addition to RochesterWorks! for Youth, the County partners with several other partners, including:

Through its partnership with RochesterWorks! for Youth, Monroe County assists with the Summer Youth Employment Program which provides on-the-job experience for several hundred youth each year.

The Entrepreneurs Network

The Monroe County Workforce Development Division also provides oversight of the funding and curriculum for The Entrepreneurs Network (TEN).   TEN is provides access to resources for existing small businesses and start-up companies in the Greater Rochester Area.  TEN also offers various training sessions, networking events and one-on-one consultations.  For more information, visit the link below.
