The Monroe County Department of Planning & Development hosts workshops as part of the Land Use Decision-Making Training Program each spring and fall. This program is designed for new board members to learn the basics of land use decision-making, for returning municipal board members to go deeper into specific areas of land use, and most classes also offer something new for municipal officials and staff, agency personnel, planners, attorneys, architects, developers, engineers, landscape architects, surveyors, and citizens.

Spring/Summer 2026 Program  

Join us to explore how Complete Streets principles can shape safer, more connected communities through local land use decisions.
  • When: Wednesday, July 15, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:30 PM
  • Where: Monroe Community College, 1000 E Henrietta Rd, Rochester, NY
  • Learning Credits: 4 hours (AICP CM Pending)
  • Cost: $50 (meal included) - Fee waivers and financial aid are available for eligible participants

Integrating Complete Streets Principles into Local Land Use Decisions

Overview:

This workshop introduces Complete Streets principles and practical tools for integrating safety and multimodal transportation into local land use decision-making. Participants will explore how these concepts relate to zoning and site plan review processes. The training is designed to help translate Complete Streets principles into practical decisions that shape safer, more connected communities.
