All Monroe County Park’s lodges, shelters, will be open starting July 1st, 2020. All reservations for the foreseeable future must comply with New York State guidelines and limitations concerning social distancing, including but not limited to limitations on number of people to gather. As of June 22nd 2020, we have begun taking new reservations with restrictions. To make a reservation use our online system or call our office at 585-753-7275.

Durand Eastman Park

Park Information

Durand Eastman Park was formally dedicated on May 22, 1909 and is currently 977 acres. The 5,000 feet of Lake Ontario waterfront at Durand Eastman Park creates a relaxing summer environment, while supporting a winter challenge for cross-country skiers. Its steep wooded slopes, valleys, scenic vistas, small lakes, spring flowering trees and spectacular fall foliage colors add to this park’s exceptional beauty. Durand Eastman Park has eight shelters and one enclosed lodge for rent, a playground and a golf course.

Location and Directions

Durand Eastman Park is located on the shore of Lake Ontario in the northernmost section of the City of Rochester near the Irondequoit border.

Common Recreation Activities at Durand Eastman Park

Rules and Regulations

  • Durand Eastman Park has a carry in-carry out rule, which means you must take all your garbage with you for disposal after leaving the park.
  • Shelters are available to rent from 10:00 a.m. until 10:30 p.m.
  • All pets must be leashed and you are responsible for cleaning up after them.

In Durand Eastman Park there are three restroom facilities: one near the Sunset Shelter, another one is located between the Acorn and Maple Shelters, and the third is at the end of Log Cabin Road.  These bathrooms are available seasonally between May 1st and October 31st.   See the park map for specific locations.


Before heading out to Durand Eastman Park print the map. The color coded hiking trails and additional details will keep you on the right track.

The Durand Lake Trail is a 1.2 mile walk that has a very strong wilderness feel to it. There are sections of corduroy (log paths) along the southern part of the trail.

The Trott Lake Trail is a .5 mile walk over small rolling hills. Along the path you will see the area that used to be Dr. Henry S. Durand’s old campground where there are also unusual trees which are labeled.

The Eastman Lake Trail is a 1.5 mile walk that is spectacular for any season. This trail follows along the lake where you can see waterfowl and warblers, especially during migration seasons.

Golf Course

Durand Eastman features a scenic, historic Robert Trent Jones-designed golf course framed in a traditional style.
