Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator/Trainee
Description of Duties
This is a trainee position in the field of wastewater treatment operation designed to develop the technical skills required to independently perform duties in the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of a Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant with or without facilities for the activated sludge process (including all modifications). Duties involve learning how to perform active regular on-site operational functions with facilities for chemical precipitation, sludge vacuum filtration, sludge incineration, separate sludge digestion, or any other biological oxidation process, including activated sludge, and the stabilization or oxidation process. Upon successful completion of the training period, including possession of valid Wastewater Operator Certification issued by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation at the appropriate grade for the plant at which employed (Grade 3A, 3 or 2; dependent on type of plant), employee will advance to Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator without further civil service examination. The employee reports directly to, and works under the direct supervision of, a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator or other higher level staff member.
Minimum Qualifications
TRAINEE: Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma.
OPERATOR: Possession of a valid New York Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) Operator

Wastewater Treatment Plant Certificate
Town of Webster Grade 3A
Village of Webster Grade 3
Village of Honeoye Falls Grade 2
Special Requirements:
*Provide copy of valid New York Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) Operator Certification with application.
