Senior Public Health Engineer, prov
Description of Duties
This professional public health engineering position is located in the Monroe County Department of Public Health and is responsible for furnishing advice and guidance to local officials and the general public in regard to environmental health problems and the measures necessary for improvements and compliance with legal requirements. Duties include providing leadership in promotion of public health through application of environmental health practices and enforcement of the provisions of the Public Health Laws and Sanitary Codes in relation to environmental health matters. This position differs from the lower-level Assistant Public Health Engineer by virtue of its responsibility for program planning and development. Employees are responsible for one or more specialized areas of environmental health. The employee reports directly to and works under the general supervision from an Associate or Principal Public Engineer or other higher-level staff member. Supervision is exercised over a professional environmental health staff. Does related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree or Master’s degree in Environmental, Chemical, Civil Engineering or a closely related field, plus two (2) years paid full-time or it’s part-time equivalent experience in applying engineering principles for the detection, evaluation, control, and management of those factors in the environment which influence the public’s health.
Minimum qualifications are regulated by Part 11 of the State Sanitary Code as contained in Chapter 1 of Title 10.
Possession of a valid New York State Professional Engineer’s license at the time of appointment.
