Veterinary Technician, Part-Time
Description of Duties
This position, located in the Monroe County Department of Parks, Seneca Park Zoo, is responsible for assisting the Veterinarian with the medical care, feeding, and monitoring of the animal collection. Duties include assisting with physical examinations, immunizations, birthing and euthanasia, administering medications and surgery. This position differs from Veterinary Attendant by virtue of its ability to provide specialized nursing care. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision from, a Veterinarian or other higher-level staff member. General supervision is exercised over Zoo Keepers. Does related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology and four (4) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as a Veterinary Technician, Veterinary Assistant, Veterinary Attendant, or similar capacity involving the care, feeding, and observation/monitoring of sick, injured or quarantined animals.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Current possession of a Veterinary Technician’s License issued by the University of the State of New York Education Department.
