Description of Duties

This is a professional nursing position responsible for providing primary health care services in a public health or other health related setting.  Duties involve diagnosing illnesses and recommending therapeutic and corrective measures which may include the prescription of drugs, devices and immunizing agents.  The employee must be certified to practice in the specialty area or areas related to the work performed and the work performed must be in accordance with written practice agreements and protocols.  The work is performed independently under the appropriate license in collaboration with a licensed physician qualified in the specialty area.  The employee retains responsibility for the professional tasks performed within his/her scope of practice.  The employee reports directly to and works under the general supervision of an administrator or physician.  General supervision may be exercised over professional nursing staff.  Does related work as required. 

Note: This position is in the Maternal & Child Health Services Division of the Department of Public Health and is assigned to Starlight Pediatrics at 451 East Henrietta Rd. The NP provides primary health care in a clinic setting to children who are in foster care in Monroe County. The NP reports directly to a Nurse Manager, Senior Nurse Practitioner or other higher-level nurse. Does related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

New York State certification to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the specialty area(s) related to the work performed.*
