Aquatic Life Support Systems Operator-Zoo
Description of Duties
This position in the Parks Department, Seneca Park Zoo is responsible for the operation, maintenance and monitoring of the Zoo's water exhibits. Duties involve conducting water tests and analysis, preventive maintenance, and reading plans and blueprints. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Aquatic Life Support and Facilities or other higher-level staff member. General supervision is exercised over Zoo Attendants. Employees must be available to work any schedule. Does related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus EITHER:
(A) Three (3) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in one of the electrical, mechanical or construction trades, or wastewater treatment, or water treatment, or laboratory work, or mechanical maintenance**; OR,
(B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree in Biology or other natural science (physical and biological) plus one (1) year paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as described in (A) above; OR,
(C) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
**Mechanical maintenance experience, for the purposes of these minimum qualifications, includes but is not limited to automotive, hydraulics, pneumatics, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC), power transmission, millwright, pool filtration equipment or aquatic life support systems equipment maintenance and repair.
