Description of Duties

This is a managerial position at the located at the Monroe County Department of Aviation, Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport, involving the responsibility for airfield safety and security compliance, and maintenance requirements.  The position coordinates operational programs such as maintenance and repair, and winter snow and ice removal.  The employee reports directly to and works under the general supervision of an airport administrator.  General supervision is exercised over Maintenance Mechanics.  Does related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:

 (A) Six (6) years of paid full‑time or its part‑time equivalent experience in the maintenance and operation of airport infrastructure at an airport certified under Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 139, or a military airport, including runways, taxiways, ramps, roadways, buildings, grounds & equipment, two (2) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity* responsible for airport operations, OR;

 (B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s degree in Business Administration, plus four (4) years of paid full‑time or its part‑time equivalent experience as defined in (A) above, two (2) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity* responsible for airport operations, OR;

 (C)  An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.

Supervisory capacity, for the purposes of these minimum qualifications, involves typical duties such as assigning and reviewing work, evaluating performance, maintaining work standards, motivating and developing subordinate employees, implementing procedural changes, increasing efficiency and dealing with problems of absenteeism, morale and discipline.  The supervision aspects must be an integral part of the job, not incidental or occasional.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  Possession of a valid Class *B* Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-B) license issued by the State of New York at the time of appointment.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Candidates for employment with Monroe County Government will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test, including marijuana for positions requiring a commercial driver's license (CDL). Failure to meet the standards may result in disqualification.
