Monroe County Executive Adam Bello today renamed Lakefront Lodge in Webster Park in memory of Webster native Jamieson Ritter. Officer Ritter was tragically killed in the line of duty on July 4, 2024 while serving as a police officer in Cleveland, Ohio.
“In renaming this lodge in Officer Ritter’s honor we remember the selflessness he exhibited when serving his community and our nation. I hope that people will take time to learn about Jamieson when visiting this newly renamed lodge in Webster Park,” said Monroe County Executive Adam Bello. “He was a true American hero whose ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty will be remembered by the people he served and by the residents of Monroe County.”
“The remembrance of Jamieson’s sacrifice means the world to our family,” said Jon and Karen Ritter. “We are touched by the collective support of the County Executive, Law Enforcement, and Legislature to rename the lodge in support of and in memory of first responders.”
Officer Ritter was from Webster, NY and was a 2015 graduate of McQuaid Jesuit High School. He grew up with a profound desire to serve his country and his community, following in the steps of his father who served with the Greece Police Department. He graduated from Syracuse University in 2019 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army National Guard. As a member of the Ohio Army National Guard, he deployed to Syria in 2022 and returned to continue his service as a police officer with the City of Cleveland before he was killed.
“I hold the Ritter family near and dear to my heart, as I know them personally,” said Monroe County Sheriff Todd K. Baxter. “The fact that we are even standing here today, renaming a building in honor of a fallen law enforcement officer, is heartbreaking. Jamieson Ritter is a hero. He stood for all that is good, and right with the world, and was taken senselessly. Please remember this officer from our hometown. Remember what he represents and the sacrifice he gave while protecting his community in Cleveland. God bless the Ritter family.”
“Jamieson Ritter was a beloved son, brother, uncle, solider, and police officer,” said Monroe County Legislature President Yversha Román. “As we prepare to rename this lodge in his honor, we reflect on the ultimate sacrifice he made in service to others. This lodge will be a permanent reminder of Officer Ritter’s courage and compassion, and the legacy he leaves behind will continue to inspire all who walk through those doors.”
“Naming the Ritter Lodge today, our community expresses its deepest gratitude for Jamieson’s service,” said Legislator John Baynes. “No gesture is enough, but we hope this beautiful lodge in Jamieson’s hometown brings comfort to his family and friends.”
“Renaming this lodge in honor of Officer Jamieson Ritter is a lasting tribute to a true American hero,” said County Legislator Mark Johns. “Jamieson was a Monroe County native, a U.S. Army veteran, and a dedicated Cleveland police officer who gave his life protecting others. This memorial ensures that his courage, service, and ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten. His legacy will live on not only in the hearts of those who knew him, but in the minds of all who pass through the Jamieson Ritter Memorial Lodge - reminding future generations of the price of duty and the meaning of selfless service.”
