Description of Duties
This a specialized technical position in the Department of Public Health, Medical Examiner's Office, Forensic Toxicology Laboratory, responsible for identifying and quantifying drugs and other chemicals in post-mortem blood and tissues, in samples drawn from defendants accused of impaired driving and in samples taken from victims of drug-facilitated sexual assault. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Chief Toxicologist or other higher level staff member. General supervision is exercised over a staff of Toxicology Technicians and Interns. Does related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus EITHER:
(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree in a biology, chemistry, clinical chemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, medical technology, or forensic science field plus two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in analytical or forensic toxicology, or analytical chemistry; OR,
(B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s degree AND a Master’s degree in one of the fields mentioned in (A) above; OR,
(C) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
