Description of Duties
This is a professional engineering position responsible for a particular civil engineering function, program or project. Work may involve areas of traffic engineering, highway or bridge design or construction, water or sewage systems design, construction or treatment, environmental engineering, or other civil engineering fields. The employee reports directly to and works under general supervision from senior‑level engineering staff. Supervision may be exercised over a staff of junior engineers or engineering aides. Does related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:
(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or closely related field, plus two (2) years paid full‑time or its part-time equivalent experience in civil or environmental engineering; OR,
(B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or closely related field, plus one (1) year of experience as described in (A); OR,
(C) Possession of a New York State Professional Engineer’s license in a Civil discipline or possession of a Professional Engineer’s license in a Civil discipline issued by a state having reciprocity** with New York Professional Engineering licensure standards, and which license was obtained by written examination; OR,
(D) Any equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
**Where, in order to meet the Professional Engineering’s license requirement, an individual is appointed by using the process of reciprocity, the probationary period is not considered complete until the employee has received the Professional Engineer’s license issued by the State of New York. The license must be obtained during the 12-month probationary period.
