Description of Duties

This position is responsible for conducting outreach by engaging runaway, homeless and street youth with the goal of addressing immediate life and safety issues, reducing the risk of sexual exploitation and abuse, reducing and preventing incidents of homelessness and other issues. Duties involve assisting youth in crisis intervention, problem solving, action planning and skill building by engaging in ‘authentic youth’ building through a trauma-informed lens using a system of care framework (comprehensive community based support that provides family-driven and youth guided services).  The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of a Senior Youth Engagement Specialist or other higher‑level staff member.  Does related work as required

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma PLUS either:

(A)     Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Master’s degree in Social Work; OR,

(B)     Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s degree plus one (1) year paid full-time or its part-time equivalent professional** experience developing programming for youth services or direct youth service work, both of which must have involved working with disadvantaged/high risk youth such as those that are homeless, suffering from substance abuse disorder, or survivors of violence or sex trafficking, or other disadvantaged situations; OR,

(C)     Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s degree plus three (3) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent professional** experience developing programming for youth services or direct youth service work both of which must have involved working with disadvantaged/high risk youth such as those that are homeless, suffering from substance abuse disorder, or survivors of violence or sex trafficking, or other disadvantaged situations; OR,

(D)    An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B) and (C) above.
