Description of Duties

This is a responsible position in the Department of Environmental Services involving field testing and sampling work for the control of industrial wastes.  The employee assists during emergency spill activities and is on twenty-four (24) hour call.  The employee must be available to work weekends.  The employee must be able to move fifty (50) pounds.  The employee reports directly to and works under the general supervision of the Industrial Waste Engineer.  Does related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER: 

(A)  Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Civil, Chemical, or Sanitary Engineering, or one of the Natural or Physical Sciences; OR,

(B)  Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree (or sixty (60) semester credit hours) in Civil, Chemical, or Sanitary Engineering, or one of the Natural or Physical Sciences, plus two (2) years of full‑time or its part‑time equivalent paid experience in either water or wastewater chemical testing in a municipal industrial waste control section or in the process operation (i.e. an active operator in the day‑to‑day operation) of an industrial waste control facility, water treatment facility, waste water facility or pollution control facility; OR, 

(C)  Four (4) years of experience as defined in (B); OR, 

(D)  Any equivalency combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B) and (C) above.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: 

Must possess an OSHA forty (40) hour Worker Safety and Protection Course (29 CFR 1910.120) within six (6) months of appointment.

Must pass a HAZMAT physical examination at the time of appointment or within six (6) months of appointment.
