It is illegal to dispose of a car battery in the trash. Car batteries are NOT accepted at ecopark.

Retailers (AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts, etc.) are required to accept up to two used batteries per month from any individual for free. When buying a new battery, a $5 surcharge is included. Return the old battery when purchasing a new one to avoid the surcharge.

Your local municipality's public works department (city, town or village) may accept car batteries when dropped off. Contact them about their policy.

Local scrap yards may take batteries as well, but check beforehand to make sure car batteries are accepted. Click here to view local scrap yards.

Used Motor Oil

Auto service establishments that sell at least 500 gallons of oil per year must accept up to 5 gallons of used oil per person, per day for free. Retailers (AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts, etc.) that sell at least 1,000 gallons per year of oil must also accept used oil. Visit earth911.com to find a local retailer that will accept used oil.

Used motor oil is NOT accepted at ecopark. However, motor oil that is mixed with gasoline or otherwise contaminated WILL be accepted at ecopark Hazardous Household Waste collections. HHW Appointment Required. Click here for more info.

Automotive Fuel, Fluids, Cleaners, Wax, Etc.

Automotive fluids (antifreeze, brake, power steering and transmission fluids), fuels (gasoline, diesel, gas/oil mixes), cleaners, and waxes are accepted at ecopark Hazardous Household Waste collections. HHW Appointment Required. Click here for more info.

City of Rochester Residents can place tires at curb for regular refuse pick-up.

Bare tire rims can be disposed of as scrap metal at ecopark or local metal scrap yards. Click here to view local scrap yards.

Automotive tire retailers are required to accept waste tires for disposal. When purchasing/installing new tires customers may return an equal quantity of old tires of approximately the same size. Contact local tire retailers for details on acceptance of tires. Fees may apply.

Car Seats

Car seats are NOT ACCEPTED for recycling at ecopark. Check with manufacturers or retailers for take back programs.

Car parts including brake pads, drums and rotors are accepted at ecopark in the scrap metal bin. Auto parts are NOT accepted for recycling curbside.

Complete Vehicles

Contact your local charity or human service organization of choice to determine if they will accept your old car, truck, van, SUV, motorcycle, boat, RV, golf cart, or riding lawn mower for donation.
