Vision Zero Initiative

What is Vision Zero?A Safe System Approach

Monroe County Vision Zero Initiative

Monroe County is committed to making transportation safer for everyone - people who walk, bike, use mobility devices, take transit, drive, and use other modes of transportation.

The County's Vision Zero Initiative brings together existing and new safety efforts under a coordinated approach. It emphasizes data-driven decision-making, safer roadway design, appropriate speeds, education and enforcement, and collaboration across jurisdictions and agencies.

The initiative builds on Monroe County's ongoing transportation safety work, including the Countywide Active Transportation Plan, the Community Traffic Safety Team, Safe Routes to School, traffic safety programs, and regional and local road safety plans.
