Language Access Compliance Coordinator, prov.
Description of Duties
This position has a key role in the Monroe County Department of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and will play an important part in the implementation of strategy, policy, and building of culture of diversity, equity and inclusion throughout Monroe County government. Responsibilities involve ensuring compliance across departments with standards similar to those outlined in Title VI Limited English Proficiency and New York State Executive Order 26 through the coordination of efforts with department heads and the development, implementation, and management of a cultural competency and language access service delivery plan. Duties involve coordinating the development and implementation of a language access plan pertaining to programs serving individuals with limited abilities to read, speak, write, and/or understand the English language (limited English proficient) and who are deaf or hard of hearing. Duties also involve evaluating current practices and providing oversight to the delivery of effective language access services, and contracts. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion or other higher-level staff member. Does related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus EITHER:
(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in a communications, intercultural communications, translation and interpretation, language arts, English, or English language arts field, or Public Administration, plus two (2) years paid full-time or its part time equivalent professional* experience in language access coordination, implementation, or compliance, or language access program analysis, or with the deaf or hard of hearing; or communication research; OR
(B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Certificate or an Associate’s degree in one of the fields mentioned in (A) above, plus four (4) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent professional** experience in language access coordination, implementation, or compliance, or language access program analysis, or with the deaf or hard of hearing; or communication research; OR,
(C) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
**Professional experience, for the purposes of these minimum qualifications, does not include secretarial, clerical or related experience.
