Deputy Sheriff Civil
Description of Duties
This is a civil law enforcement position in the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responsible for serving various summonses and complaints and carrying out court ordered civil actions including, but not limited to, enforcing seizures, making civil arrests, evictions, observing clients to ensure compliance with court orders, pursuing offenders, and restraining and searching suspects. Deputies are armed during the performance of duties. Deputies report directly to, and work under the general supervision of a Deputy Sheriff-Civil Sergeant or the Civil Bureau Chief.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements on or before the date of the written exam:
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma.
Additional Information:
1. Physical/Medical Standards: Must meet physical and medical standards established by the Monroe County Civil Service Commission.
2. Psychological/Backgrounds Investigation: Applicants will be subject to an extensive backgrounds investigation and psychological evaluation.
3. Citizenship: Must be a United States citizen per Public Officers Law.
4. Residency: Must be a Monroe County resident per Public Officers Law.
5. Conviction of a felony will bar appointment.
6. Deputies must successfully complete training in accordance with the Municipal Police Training Council for police officers during the probationary period or otherwise be removed from the position.
