Description of Duties

This executive position is responsible for the strategic development, management and implementation of cyber security programs to protect Monroe County’s data following the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) framework.  Duties consist of advising and consulting leadership of departments and agencies on risk profiles and risk reduction. This employee will also manage Cybersecurity Disaster Recovery Models to ensure department-level business continuity. General supervision is exercised over Cyber Security Coordinator. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Director of Information Services or other higher-level staff member.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements on or before the date of the written exam: 

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:

  1. Graduation with a Master’s degree in an information technology, cyber security or closely related field, plus one (1) year paid full-time or its part-time equivalent* cybersecurity experience, all of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; OR,
  1. Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree in an information technology, cyber security or closely related field, plus three (3) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent* cybersecurity experience, all of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; OR,
  2. An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.

Special Requirements:

Possession of one of the following certifications is required: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) OR Certified Information Security Manager (CISM).

If you are appointed, you will be required to possess a valid license to operate a vehicle in New York State, or otherwise demonstrate your ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
