Electronic Technician, prov.
Description of Duties
This is a technical position involving both field and laboratory/shop assignments in the installation, maintenance and repair of electronic traffic equipment. Duties include operation of a signal truck requiring a Class* B* Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Employees must obtain a Class *B* CDL within six (6) months of employment or be separated from the position. The work is performed under a variety of working conditions such as changing weather, confined space (manholes) and heights, and involves shift work. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of an Electronic Foreman or other higher-level staff member. Does related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:
- Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering Technology, Electronic Technology, or a closely related field; OR,
- Two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in electronic technology**; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
**Electronic technology experience must include troubleshooting and repair to the component level of digital and analog electronics circuits and a variety of electronic test equipment including oscilloscopes, Digital Volt Meter (DVMs), spectrum analyzers, (Time Domain Reflectometer (TDRs), and Radio Frequency (RF) signal level meters or the equivalent.
NOTE: Electronic board assembly work or cabinet/chassis wiring work will not be counted towards experience for this position. Industrial or residential electrical work will also not count as acceptable experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid New York State Commercial Driver's License Class *B* (CDL *B*) within six (6) months of appointment to the position.
