Seneca Park Zoo Tropics Project Updates

Introduction

Monroe County is currently undertaking a multimillion dollar project at Seneca Park Zoo that will restore the heart of the facility, replacing the former Main Building with the largest indoor tropics complex of its kind and a 220,000-gallon aquarium, along with new guest services, ticketing, and conference areas.  This page has been created to share updates, information and renderings with the public as the project progresses.

Current Status

Enabling Phase: October 2022 thru Spring 2023

Relocation of utilities, burial of overhead power and communication lines, construction of east service road installation of new 12 foot wood stockade secondary containment fence, and reconstruction of abandoned CSX right of way into 6 foot wide stone dust trail.

Early commencement of tree removals along the existing chain link fence and trail started the week of October 17th.  Contractor has been setting up temporary construction fencing for future deliveries and construction staging.

Next week will bring further site clearing and installation of stormwater protection measures.

Nov. 7-11 Forcemain installation
