Toxicologist I, prov
Description of Duties
This a specialized technical position in the Department of Public Health, Medical Examiner's Office, Forensic Toxicology Laboratory, responsible for identifying and quantifying drugs and other chemicals in post mortem blood and tissues, in samples drawn from defendants accused of impaired driving and in samples taken from victims of drug-facilitated sexual assault. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of, the Chief Toxicologist or other higher level staff member. General supervision is exercised over a staff of Toxicology Technicians and Interns. Does related work as required
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus EITHER:
(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree in a biology, chemistry, clinical chemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, medical technology, or forensic science field plus two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in analytical or forensic toxicology, or analytical chemistry; OR,
(B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s degree AND a Master’s degree in one of the fields mentioned in (A) above; OR,
(C) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B)
