Description of Duties

This is a technical position responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of public safety electronic and radio equipment. Duties are performed in accordance with laws and regulations prescribed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The employee operates vehicles that require a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no Air Brake restriction.  Driver training, if necessary, and a vehicle will be supplied by the employer.  The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Public Safety Communications Administrator, the Senior Public Safety Radio Technician, or other higher level staff member.  Does related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus EITHER:

  1.  One (1) year full‑time or its part‑time equivalent paid or volunteer** experience in the maintenance and  repair of two-way radio equipment; OR
  2. One (1) year full-time or its part-time equivalent paid or volunteer** experience in the operation, installation, or maintenance/repair of a computer network server or network operating system; OR,
  3.  Successful completion of a recognized course in two-way radio or computer operations and repair, such as training courses offered by the military, computer hardware vendors or consultants or any other verifiable training course providing “hands on” computer operation or two-way radio maintenance experience, plus six (6) months experience, as described in (A) or (B) above.

**Volunteer experience must be documented by the participating agency and signed by the appointing authority. Employment dates, average number of hours worked per week, and job duties must be included. Documentation must be included with your application.
