Director of Inmate Drug and Alcohol Treatment Programs
Description of Duties
This is an administrative position in the Monroe County Sheriff's Office-Jail Bureau responsible for developing and implementing the inmate substance dependency program in the Monroe County Jail and the Andrew Meloni S.T.A.R. Academy. Duties include acting as the liaison with mental health service providers, allowing the integration of substance abuse treatment and mental health services to the inmate population. Duties also include developing and implementing a wellness program for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office staff, including sworn staff. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of the Jail Superintendent or other higher-level staff member. General supervision is exercised over Drug and Alcohol Counselors and Rehabilitation Counselors. Does related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus EITHER:
(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Master's degree plus four (4) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent professional experience supervising or participating in counseling chemically dependent (alcohol and/or substance abuse) or dual diagnosis individuals, two (2) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity*; OR,
(B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s degree plus six (6) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent professional experience supervising or participating in counseling chemically dependent (alcohol and/or substance abuse) or dual diagnosis individuals, two (2) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity*; OR,
(C) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
*supervisory capacity, for the purposes of these minimum qualifications, involves typical duties such as assigning and reviewing work, evaluating performance, maintaining work standards, motivating and developing subordinate employees, implementing procedural changes, increasing efficiency and dealing with problems of absenteeism, morale and discipline. The supervision aspects must be an integral part of the job, not incidental or occasional.
