Description of Duties
This position, located at the Department of Public Health, Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program, is responsible for coordinating the day‑to‑day operation of the Enhanced Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program, a program designed to support women who are considering, or are currently breastfeeding. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of, a Nutritionist or other higher-level staff member. Creates schedules and provides oversight to the activities and attendance of a contracted staff of peer counselors responsible for supporting, advising and encouraging women in the community to breastfeed.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements on or before the date of the written exam:
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus EITHER:
- Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s degree or successful completion of sixty (60) college semester credits plus one (1) year paid full-time or its part-time equivalent* experience working with lactating mothers; OR,
- Three (3) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent* experience as defined in (A) above; OR,
- An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
