Assistant Chief Toxicologist, prov. - Office of the Medical Examiner
Description of Duties
This is a high-level technical position located in the Department of Public Health, Medical Examiner’s Office responsible for assisting the Chief Toxicologist in directing the operations of the accredited regional Forensic Toxicology Laboratory and ensuring required laboratory analysis tasks are performed in a timely manner. Duties involve being responsible for the operational readiness of the laboratory as it relates to environment, equipment and supplies and independent decision-making that are consistent with generally acceptable laboratory practices. This position acts for and in place of the Chief Toxicologist as needed and oversees the work of the Toxicology Laboratory Supervisor. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of, the Chief Toxicologist or other higher-level staff member. Does related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
(A) Graduation with a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Pharmacology, Toxicology or a closely related field, plus two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in forensic toxicology which must have included ALL of the following: headspace gas chromatography, gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS), and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS); OR,
(B) Graduation with a Master’s degree in Chemistry, Pharmacology, Toxicology or a closely related field, plus four (4) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as defined in (A) above; OR,
(C) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
