Statement From County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo

Statement From County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo

With the back-to-school season in full swing here in Monroe County, it is important for all of our students to have a safe return to the school year.

All residents should take the proper safety precautions and carefully consider our students and school buses while on the road. Please remember to be alert and watch out for pedestrians, bicyclists, school buses and our students embarking and disembarking from buses. We remind all motorists to stop for school buses when the bus flashes its red lights and extends its "STOP" sign. Motorists should prepare to stop when the school buses activate their yellow flashers. It is also important for parents to talk with school aged children about the motorists around them as they walk or ride to school. In addition, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reminds the parents of teen drivers to set rules before teens hit the road with the "5 to Drive," no cell phones while driving, no extra passengers, no speeding, no alcohol and no driving or riding without a seat belt.

Let's make sure that all students have safe travels to and from school. I wish everyone in Monroe County a safe back-to-school season and a great school year.
