Public Sanitary Sewer
Program Goals
To assure that proposed sewer lines will meet environmental and public health standards for sewage disposal by reviewing and approving all plans for the construction or extension of public sewer lines within Monroe County.
Legal Authority
Section 17-0303 of the New York State Environmental Conservation Law, Title 6, Part 652 of the New York State Codes, Rules, and Regulations.
Program Highlights
- Review and approve plans and specifications following the latest edition of the “Recommended Standards For Wastewater Facilities” (Ten States Standards) and the NYSDEC’s Technical & Operational.
- Consult with the applicant, design engineer, county and municipal officials, the New York State Departments of Health and Environmental Conservation, and the public.
- Respond to and conduct complaint investigations.
Other Mandated Permits and Reviews
Certain plans for the construction or extension of sewer lines require approval of the Monroe County Pure Waters, others require the approval of the local municipality. Additional permits from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and United States Army Corp of Engineers may also be required.
