Post-Windstorm Maintenance To Be Performed On O’Rorke Bridge

Post-Windstorm Maintenance To Be Performed On O’Rorke Bridge

On Wednesday, March 22nd and Thursday, March 23rd, a contractor for the Monroe County Department of Transportation will perform maintenance on the Patrick O’Rorke Bridge. The maintenance will be performed from 8:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. on both days. Some lanes of traffic will be closed, however two-way traffic will be maintained during this scheduled repair work.

This work includes the replacement of traffic barrier gates damaged by the recent windstorm. Traffic across the bridge will be maintained by control devices and flaggers.

In addition, the O’Rorke Bridge will undergo maintenance next week to address the mechanical issues that have caused frequent breakdowns in the past. The maintenance will be conducted from Monday, March 27th, through Wednesday, March 29th, during the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This maintenance is unrelated to storm damage.

During these times, there will be multiple lifts of the bridge to the upright position. Two-way traffic will be maintained with frequent delays when the bridge is in the upright position. This maintenance schedule was selected to minimize the effect on morning and evening commutes.

The Patrick O’Rorke bridge is a lift bridge over the Genesee River connecting the Town of Irondequoit and the historic Charlotte neighborhood. Built in 2004, the bridge is named after Colonel Patrick O’Rorke, a Civil War hero.
